Portraits & Still Life

Classical portraiture involves the rhetoric of pose and gaze, but also the virtuosity of brushwork. It does not imitate photography, but rather rivals the repertoire of previous portrait painters. Still life as a genre can also be rhetorical, articulate of some larger theme, but its beauty is in the work of the brush.
